Nominations for upcoming elections.
Positions up for elections are: President, 2ndVice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Equality Officer, Stewards x 3, Trustee, WSIB Representatives x 2
Notice of intention for proposed changes to the Local Bylaws To be approved by the membership:
1. Change wording of Aboriginal to Indigenous
2. A member may not hold an elected position of Union Executive officer, steward, or any appointed position in CUPE911 while simultaneously holding a management position, this includes temporary or expression of interest supervisor positions.
3. Change GMM meetings: General Membership meeting of Local 911 shall be held in a central location, for a minimum of six (6) meetings per calendar year. A calendar of General Membership meetings will be established by Executive Board and published by the November General Membership meeting. General Membership meetings shall begin promptly at the time as stated on the notice. The meeting will adjourn no later than three (3) hours from the start of the meeting, except where a 2/3 majority vote of the members present express a desire to continue. When a situation beyond the control of the Local Union arises which causes the cancellation of a regular membership meeting, the Executive Board shall reschedule the General Membership meeting, and will give members seven (7) days notice of the date of the rescheduled General Membership meeting.
4.Temporary Leave for Executive Board: Should an Executive Board Member need to take a temporary leave of action due to an illness or personal reasons, their office may be appointed by the Executive Board for a maximum of three (3) months, to be reviewed at the three (3) month mark if required. Honoraria will be paid out and pro rated as necessary at the end of the year in question.
We will also be looking for Union members who would like to be an Election Officer and members on the Election Committee. These positions require multiple tasks and may be time consuming. Please look at the Bylaws for the requirements of this position.

GMM Sept 16 ZOOM connection

Your CUPE Local 911 Executive Board is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting. Per the local’s bylaws we will be hosting both an AM and PM meeting. Members are welcome to join one or both. The Meeting ID and Passcode are the same for both meetings.

Please do not watch or participate with the Union meeting while you are working or on the Niagara Regional web network. It would be against Regional policy, could lead to disciplinary action and give the Employer access to the meeting.

GMM: General Membership Meeting

• Nominations for a Steward & two Trustees
• Vote members to attend CUPE Ontario Division Conference (Nominations were taken at the Feb 11th Special GMM)
• Appoint a member to the Bylaw Committee (any members interested, send an email to CUPE911@yahoo.com)
• Vote on a standing NPA motion from the January 29th GMM, pm session. Motion was regarding CUPE 911 Local to reimburse NPA for the Children’s Christmas party that did not meet the original motion requirements. (vote only needs to take place in am session. Only those who didn’t attend at the January 29th GMM, pm session is eligible to vote)
• Vote on a motion for a new file cabinet for the Union hall

CUPE Local 911 – November 06, 2019

UPDATED:  NEW CHANGES & INFORMATION WITH REGARDS TO FUTURE                              GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS (GMM)

Due to the new Bylaws that were recently passed, there are some changes in the GMM times, changes to voting on positions, as well as motions on the floor.

  • There will be two times you can now attend a GMM. There will be a morning time of 09:00 and an evening time of 19:30. This was changed in the hope of allowing more members the opportunity to attend a GMM to voice their opinion and to be more informed with current issues
  • Scheduled Months of a regular GMM is still the same; January, March, May, June, September & November and usually occur on a Wednesday  (The Wednesday day of the Month for the year 2020 TBA)
  • Due to a morning and a night GMM, Motions on the floor at the morning GMM with be counted via a vote of; for and against. Then at the evening GMM, the Motion will again be presented, and a vote count will take place. Both morning and evening vote tallies will be counted in order to determine if the motion passed or was voted down.
  • Electronic voting will now take place for elected positions only. We are in the process of preparing for electronic voting for the January 2020 GMM. An Election Committee consisting of a Chief Returning Officer and Assistance(s) will be appointed at the November 20th GMM. This committee shall have full responsibility for voting arrangements and make all decisions regarding the election process. Members interested in the election committee must be a member in good standing and who are neither Officers nor candidates for office. If interested, attend the November GMM. Their duties include giving advise & guidance to Officers, committee members and to the general membership on all issues that affect all equity seeking groups. More details on this position can be found in our bylaws on pages 12 & 13 @ 911.cupe.ca We will be electing a Treasurer at the January 2020 GMM. Nominations for this position will take place at the November 20th GMM. You may attend the morning or evening November GMM to be nominated for this position. If unable to attend the GMM, send your intentions & consent in writing, witnessed by another member to Thesecretary911@yahoo.com  The Treasurer requires that the member be bonded through the master bond held by CUPE National. Any Treasurer who cannot qualify for bond shall be disqualified from office. Duties include but not limited to: Responsible for maintaining all financial paperwork such as; bookkeeping, invoices, receipts, expense claims, bank records, financial transactions etc. Be responsible with finances and budget for future expenses. Follow all CRA (Canadian Revenue Agency) financial requirements and documentation. Parking: During the morning GMM, if no parking spots are available, there is a Municipality parking lot located just South of the hall and is free to park. During the evening GMM, parking is usually not a problem as the businesses are closed that use the same lot.
